The
Trust - Beginnings
Joseph
Rank, a miller in the 19th & 20th
centuries, set up a number of grant making trusts to further
the aims he had supported throughout his life. Joseph was
a passionate member of the Methodist Church and the trusts
represented a practical expression of his strong Christian
beliefs and his desire to advance the Christian faith and
to help the less fortunate members of society.
After his death in 1943 his family and friends continued
his work taking responsibility for distribution of the money
he had made and given to those he felt compelled to support.
The Trust - Today
The current trust was established in June 2002. It represents
an amalgamation of a number of the charities (Joseph Rank Benevolent
Trusts) established by Joseph Rank and the Joseph Rank (1942)
Trust, established by members of his family, during the period
from October 1918 to April 1942. The Trust is a registered charity and a company limited
by guarantee.
The Trust deed sets out the objects as follows:
1. |
To advance the Christian
faith |
2. |
To further any other objects or
purposes which are exclusively charitable according to
the laws of England and Wales in force from time to time |
While there are close family
and operational links between The Joseph Rank Trust, The
Rank Foundation , The
Rank Prize Funds and The
Arthur Rank Centre (the latter three being established by J. Arthur Rank) the four charities are separate
legal entities.

Rank Foundation , The

If you are inspired by the work of The Joseph Rank Trust and
would like to give financially to the capital fund (either by
donation or legacy), the Trustees would be very
happy to administer such monies in the same way as they do Joseph
Rank's.
Please contact the
Secretary if you would like to discuss this further.
